"Through capacity building, outreach and engagement in the Filipino community, the filipino mental health initiative-sf strives to reduce stigma, promote awareness, and increase access to culturally appropriate wellness services and the effectiveness of the behavioral health services in San Francisco."
Our HomeThe Filipino Mental Health Initiative of San Francisco honors and thanks the generations of people and initiatives who have laid the foundation for promoting wellness in our Filipino communities. The Filipino Mental Health Resource Group that convened in the 1980's and the 1990's, worked to expand services and address the needs of our community. Over the course of the past decade, the original Filipino Mental Health Initiative in San Mateo County advanced the campaign to reduce the stigma of mental health and substance abuse, increase access to services and reach out to the community. FMHI-San Mateo was also instrumental in helping build FMHI-San Francisco in its founding and development of our original work plan. FMHI-San Francisco was established in 2012 through the collaboration of mental health providers, consumers, advocates, community leaders, and interested community members committed to supporting the wellness of Filipinos and Filipino-Americans in San Francisco. Check out the amazing work at our sister sites in Solano and San Mateo counties. Bayanihan Community CenterFADF/Bayanihan Community Center was founded by Dr. Mario A Borja and a group of Filipino leaders in San Francisco with the vision to provide a community space for newly arrived Filipino immigrants who came to America seeking better career and employment opportunities. In 2005, FADF opened the Bayanihan Community Center, located at the corner of 6th Street and Mission Street in San Francisco. The Center provides an integrated array of cultural activities, space for community gatherings, and a home for vital service organizations, businesses, and housing. The ground floor of the building houses Arkipelago Bookstore, the Bayanihan Equity Center (formerly called the Veterans Equity Center), and the Bayanihan Community Center; a multipurpose space and hub for many Filipino-led organizations in the South of Market. It is also home to the parol making workshops, the Filipino Education Center's Galing Bata Summer Program, monthly drop-in's with Mabuhay Health Clinic, SOMA Pilipinas, KulArts, and wellness workshops hosted by the Filipino Mental Health Initiative-San Francisco. |
