Workshop #1: "PEP is Our Wellness: Ethnic Studies RADically Saves Our Lives"Presented by Dr. Rod Daus-Magbual, Angeli Ong, and Sophia Diaz-Muca
Workshop Description: Drawing from Ethnic Studies, we propose Culturally RADical Pedagogy which places high value on indigenous cultures and the cultures of communities of color. To be culturally RADical we need to be in conversation about the perpetuity of cultural practices that provide decolonial medicine while critiquing and imagining beyond systems that have created toxicity in our lives. We need explore and reclaim our cultural past and what has been taken away from us, develop our identities through engaging cultural production, and restore power to cultures that have been marginalized or silenced, even in our own communities. Cultural RADicalness values dynamic dialogue about cultural pasts, productions, and power--so as to insure “cultural perpetuity,” resist overessentialization, reduce appropriation, and prevent genocide.
