filipinx healer workshop series 2020 || throughout the month of october 2020
about the eventEvery October, in celebration of Filipino American History Month, the "Filipinx Healer Workshop Series" (FHWS) engages community members through different holistic healing modalities with the guidance of Filipinx identified healers and practitioners throughout the diaspora. We aim to foster wellness spaces to reimagine and redefine wellness within the Filipino/Filipino American experience.
In response to shelter in place orders throughout San Francisco county, this year's Filipinx Healer Workshop Series will be virtual. There is a suggested sliding scale donation to attend each workshop; however, all events at the Filipino Mental Health Initiative-San Francisco are available at NO COST to the community. Registration for our first workshop begins

He is a son of Filipino immigrants from the regions of Luzon and Mindanao, tracing his familial roots in Ramaytush Ohlone territory (San Francisco) as far back as the 1920s. He is a humble culture bearer and descendent of abularyos and manghihilots. Harvey’s healing journey began with his work in social activism and engaging young people in the juvenile justice system. For over 15 years, he has dedicated his life to disrupting the school-to-prison pipeline through youth leadership development and culturally responsive counseling services for children and families throughout San Francisco. As an artist, Harvey curates art shows and makes photographs to document community stories, social movements and aspires to share OUR truths for generations to come. Harvey’s recent health challenges led him to this current path as a healer; reconnecting to ancestral medicines from the Philippines that continue to surface throughout this difficult, yet necessary work in re-membering. He believes fostering spaces of healing throughout the Filipinx diaspora creates a new world that teaches us how to love ourselves and our kapwa. ~I AM BECAUSE WE ARE~

Jamie Cardenas of Magpie alchemyI started my journey working with plant medicine about 5 years ago due to managing chronic illness. This new path also led to me to reconnecting with my ancestors and some of the plants and herbs my grandparents used in the Philippines. I formulate and make botanical products for my apothecary shop in Sacramento, CA. I also am in love with time tested processes like soap making and botanical distillations with a Copper Alembic. When i'm not making healing products for your skin and mind, you will also find me in front of a Natural Plant Dye Vat, or in the kitchen making food for my family.
