Adua: Filipinx Mental Health Counseling Scholarship 2021

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

ADUA means the number “two” in the Kapampangan dialect. Dua also means the number two in Ilocano. Two symbolizes the power of two people coming together to talkstory, listen, affirm, inspire, support as people walk their path towards healing and wellness. The significance of two is that we can choose to not face our life experiences and/or challenges alone.

A collaboration between SOMA Pilipinas and the Filipino Mental Health Initiative of San Francisco, "ADUA" is a Filipinx mental health counseling scholarship that will offer Filipinx identified adults 18+ living in San Francisco access to free mental health and wellness services. Scholarships will provide access to individual brief counseling services and a support group for family members impacted by mental illness.

To be eligible for the Adua 2021 mental health scholarship, applicants must be:
  • Filipinx, Filipinx American identified
  • age 18 and older
  • a San Francisco-Bay Area resident (residents of SF's South of Market, Excelsior, Mission, and Tenderloin neighborhood's will be prioritized)
  • an individual seeking brief counseling services

About Our Community Partner

SOMA PILIPINAS

The cultural heritage district honors the over 120-year Filipino history and living legacy of making home, celebrating culture, building community and fighting for economic and racial justice. Embodying the spirit of bayanihan, SOMA Pilipinas supports a community-in-action in the highly gentrified South of Market neighborhood.

SOMA Pilipinas was officially established as SF’s Filipino Cultural Heritage District in 2016 and was among the first selected for state designation by the California Arts Council in 2017.
